Why Patina

What makes this workshop different

Honest assessments

We describe what we find in plain language and never recommend work your watch does not need.

Written records

Every job comes with written documentation — timing results, work carried out, and parts used — so your watch has a proper history.

Unhurried pace

We do not rush movements through an assembly line. Each piece receives the attention it needs, at a pace the work demands.

Originality respected

For restoration work, we keep original parts and finishes wherever possible, consulting you before any irreversible step.

Proper equipment

Ultrasonic cleaning, multiple timing positions, and watchmaker-grade tools — the right instruments for precise, careful work.

Clear pricing

Prices are stated upfront. For multi-stage restorations, each stage is costed and agreed before it begins — no surprises.

Common Questions

Things people often ask

How do I know which service my watch needs? +

A Quick Health Check is the right place to start if you are unsure. We examine the piece and give you a written summary with our suggestion. From there you can decide whether to proceed with a more involved service.

How long does a Movement Service take? +

A Movement Service typically takes two to four weeks, depending on parts availability and current workshop load. We let you know at drop-off what to expect and keep you updated if anything changes.

What does the Heirloom Restoration involve? +

We begin with a thorough assessment and a clear written plan showing each proposed stage and its cost. Work only proceeds once you have agreed. The final archive document covers all work carried out, parts used, and timing results.

Do you work on all watch brands? +

We work with most Swiss, Japanese, and European mechanical movements, as well as some quartz pieces. Certain modern proprietary movements may need to return to a brand's own service centre — we will tell you honestly if that is the case.

Can I send my watch by post? +

We do accept watches by registered and insured post. Please contact us first so we can advise on safe packaging and confirm we can handle the piece before it travels.

Are prices final, or might there be additional charges? +

For the Health Check and Movement Service, the listed price covers the standard scope. If we find something unexpected that requires additional work, we contact you for approval before proceeding. For Heirloom Restoration, each stage is agreed and costed in advance.
